This visit was promoted to resolve the shortage of agricultural labor caused by rural aging and labor shortages.
The Muan County Council engaged in preliminary inspections by meeting with Phonhong Mayor of Laos regarding the foreign seasonal worker support project, discussing the selection of seasonal workers, and visiting pre-entry training facilities.
Chairman Kim Kyung-hyun stated, “We must actively utilize the seasonal worker system to help regions struggling with population decline and aging,” and added, “We will actively support all necessary matters including budget to ensure the smooth implementation of the seasonal worker support project.”
Meanwhile, the foreign seasonal worker program is a system that allows foreigners to work for 90 days or 5 months in industries that require concentrated labor to alleviate rural labor shortages. Muan County signed an MOU with Silang City in the Philippines in February last year.
