Strengthening the Capabilities of Over 140 Public Officials in the Aviation
MRO Industry Workforce
Sacheon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 11th that it conducted an educational session on understanding the aviation MRO industry and development plans for Sacheon City for about 140 public officials in the main conference room.
This training was organized to strengthen employees' capabilities regarding the aviation MRO industry through understanding the aviation MRO industry and successful cases of domestic and international MRO industries, and to help set future development directions.
The training was conducted under the theme Understanding the Aviation MRO Industry and Development Plans for Sacheon City by inviting Professor Cheon Sangpil from the Department of Military Science at Daejeon University.
Professor Cheon emphasized the necessity of establishing a cooperative system with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), the only domestic aircraft development and manufacturing company, and Korean Air (KAL), the largest domestic air carrier with domestic transport aircraft maintenance capabilities.
In particular, he proposed future development plans such as expanding volume using KAEMS, establishing Sacheon MRO for light aircraft and helicopters, and benchmarking successful cases of overseas MRO companies.
In 2010, following the government's ‘Basic Plan for Aviation Industry Development 2010’ and the promotion of the aviation industry global G7 leap MRO project, the city signed an MOU for the aviation maintenance (MRO) business together with Gyeongnam Province and KAI.
After the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport selected KAI as the aviation maintenance business operator in December 2017, KAI established KAEMS, a specialized aviation MRO company, and is actively promoting the business.
A city official said, “We hope this training will be a meaningful time to correctly understand the MRO industry and review the current status and prospects of our city’s MRO.”
Meanwhile, Sacheon City and Gyeongsangnam-do are striving to lead national balanced development by investing 175.9 billion KRW to create an aviation MRO industrial complex and grow the western Gyeongnam region into an MRO hub.
