Obstruction of Official Duties: 5 Million Won Fine
Court: "Committed Crime Without Refraining During Probation Period"
A man in his 50s who caused a disturbance in court and assaulted correctional officers after being sentenced to prison for committing a crime during his probation period was fined.
On the 10th, Judge Park Seong-min of the Chuncheon District Court Criminal Division 3 announced that he sentenced Mr. A (53), who was indicted for obstruction of official duties, to a fine of 5 million won.
Mr. A was sentenced to four months in prison for injury at the Wonju branch of the Chuncheon District Court around 2 p.m. on April 13 and was immediately taken into custody. Angered by this, Mr. A caused a disturbance by repeatedly ramming his head into the defendant's desk, shouting, "I will die here." Later, when correctional officers subdued him and moved him to the defendant's waiting room, he kicked their shins and threatened, "I will kill you," leading to charges of causing a disturbance.
Despite being on probation after receiving a 10-month prison sentence with a two-year probation for special threats in July last year, Mr. A committed another crime of injury during the probation period.
The court pointed out, "The defendant caused a disturbance and assaulted correctional officers during the process of being taken into custody in court, showing very poor criminal behavior. Despite being on probation for a violent crime, he did not repent and committed another offense." Regarding the sentencing, the court explained, "We considered that the correctional officers did not wish to press charges and that the defendant showed remorse."
