Japan NHK reports on the 9th
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that the concentration of tritium in the seawater surrounding the Fukushima nuclear reactor in Japan remains below Japan's own standards following the discharge of contaminated water, according to Japan's NHK on the 9th.
IAEA independently collected and analyzed seawater samples from multiple points within 3 km of the discharge site for the first time since Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) began diluting and releasing the contaminated water into the ocean on the 24th of last month, reaching this conclusion.
IAEA explained that the results of this analysis are consistent with the figures reported by TEPCO and the Japanese Ministry of the Environment.
In a comprehensive report released in July, the IAEA assessed that the plan to discharge contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the ocean complies with international safety standards. Since then, it has established an on-site office in Fukushima to conduct monitoring and evaluation activities.
