Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang visited the Gyeongbuk Provincial Government on the 8th to meet with Governor Lee Cheol-woo and actively requested support for local projects aimed at fostering future new growth industries.

On this day, Mayor Lee Kang-deok met with Governor Lee Cheol-woo and, as Pohang City is accelerating the development of industrial complexes to facilitate smooth corporate investment following the designation of the secondary battery specialized complex, requested that the provincial government actively propose to central government agencies an early revision of the industrial complex plan to support the smooth management of related resident companies.


He also requested active support from Gyeongbuk Province for ▲ the establishment of POSTECH’s research-oriented medical school to train physician-scientists and lead the bio-industry ▲ the construction of the integrated new airport-Pohang high-speed railway for balanced regional development in Gyeongbuk Province ▲ and the promotion of the relocation of the second public institution linked to Pohang City’s strengths.


Governor Lee Cheol-woo said, “We will create an environment where excellent companies can invest in the region by building infrastructure that makes it easy to do business, thereby enabling companies and the region to grow together,” and added, “We will do our best to support the establishment of a secondary battery innovation ecosystem and balanced regional development.”


Following this, Mayor Lee Kang-deok met with Shim Young-jae, Director of Planning and Coordination, and requested provincial funding support for the urgent reinforcement and temporary opening of the ‘Jukdo Market Dongbin Bridge reinforcement replacement’ due to current safety issues.


He also asked for active cooperation to ensure smooth progress of ▲ flood prevention facility (floodgate) support projects ▲ additional dredging support for local rivers ▲ high-pressure oxygen therapy center construction projects ▲ and 24-hour pediatric emergency medical center projects.


In addition, Mayor Lee visited the Budget Office, responsible for managing Gyeongbuk Province’s finances, and the 4th Industrial Foundation Division, which is working hard to secure future new growth engines including the secondary battery specialized complex, to encourage the staff and request active cooperation and interest.


Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang said, “Since local competitiveness directly influences national competitiveness, we will strengthen cooperation with Gyeongbuk Province to create new growth engines that will lead the future of the new local era,” and added, “We will do our best to actively foster future new industries such as secondary batteries, hydrogen, and bio so that Pohang can drive the development of Gyeongbuk and the nation.”
