Dobong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that it has established the nation's first professional breaking team and held the inauguration ceremony at Dobong-gu Office on the 8th.
Director Lee Woo-sung, who is the history of breaking in Korea and currently the chairman of the Special Breaking Committee of the Korea DanceSport Federation, was appointed as the head of the Dobong-gu Office breaking professional team. The team consists of national representatives at the Hangzhou Asian Games Kim Hong-yeol (Hongten) and Kwon Seong-hee (Stary), along with top-level technicians and movers in Korea: Oh Cheol-je (FE), Park Won-bin (Jazzbear), Choi Jeong-woo (Milli), and Korea's next-generation number one B-boy Eom Hye-seong (B1).
The reunion of Director Lee Woo-sung and player Kim Hong-yeol on the same team excites breaking fans. Director Lee and player Kim previously won the BOTY (Battle of the Year, one of the world's four major breaking competitions) in 2002 as part of the Expression Crew, marking the first Asian victory. Now, more than 20 years later, they have completed all preparations to write a new history.
At the inauguration ceremony, Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok said, “It is meaningful to establish a professional team in breaking, which has entered the realm of full-fledged sports by being officially adopted as an event at the Hangzhou Asian Games and the Paris Olympics.” He added, “We will develop breaking into a popular sport loved by the entire nation and show young people the infinite potential and possibilities of sports and culture and arts, thereby enhancing the status of ‘K-Brand Dobong’ and ‘Breaking K City Dobong.’”
The Dobong-gu Office breaking team plans to showcase their skills at the Hangzhou Asian Games, the 2024 Paris Olympics, and other famous domestic and international competitions.
About 300 people, including Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok, Lee Yoon-jae, Senior Vice President of the Korea DanceSport Federation, Park Joo-han, Senior Vice President of the Seoul Sports Council, sports officials, and local residents attended the inauguration ceremony.
