Park Jeonghun, Former Marine Corps Investigation Unit Chief... Today, Public Corruption Investigation Office Complainant Investigation

On the 8th, Park Jeong-hoon, former Marine Corps Investigation Unit Commander (Colonel), who claimed to have faced external pressure while investigating the case of Marine Corporal Chae who died during flood recovery efforts last month, will appear for a complainant investigation at the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Division (PCC). Earlier, on the 23rd of last month, former Commander Park, through his legal representative, filed a complaint against Kim Dong-hyeok, head of the Ministry of National Defense prosecution team, and Yoo Jae-eun, legal affairs officer, for abuse of authority and obstruction of the exercise of rights. In the complaint, former Commander Park's side argued that the case of Corporal Chae, who was found dead during a search for missing persons, falls under cases that cannot be investigated by the military according to the Military Court Act, and was lawfully transferred to the police. They claimed that the Ministry of National Defense prosecution team abused their authority by retrieving the Marine Corps Investigation Unit's report without a warrant.

They further added that Officer Yoo obstructed the legitimate exercise of the Investigation Unit Commander's authority by mentioning a method of transferring the case documents "by removing the crime name, suspect, and details of the charges, and simply passing them as general documents." Former Commander Park was also registered with the military prosecution on charges of disobedience under the Military Penal Code for not following the Minister of National Defense's order to withhold and not transfer the investigation results related to Corporal Chae to the police.
