Seongju-gun Removes 20 Illegal Tents... Using Muhulgugok Tents Like Vacation Homes

As local governments across the country struggle with the long-term tent dwellers who pitch tents year-round at scenic summer resorts and use them like villas, it was reported on the 8th that Seongju-gun, Gyeongbuk, has dismantled 20 illegally occupied tents, drawing attention.

In Seongju-gun, dozens of long-term fixed tents with unknown owners have been installed in various places around Daegacheon, which flows gently through Muhulgugok (Suryeon~Gacheon~Geumsu~Gimcheon), boasting beautiful natural scenery.

An official from Seongju-gun said, “Even if the tents are long-term, it is quite difficult to crack down and dismantle them if the owners cannot be identified. However, since June, we have conducted intensive crackdowns and dismantled 20 illegally occupied tents that were pitched year-round and used like villas. We conduct crackdowns at least once a week to prevent tents from being pitched here again, and in the long term, we plan to plant trees to eliminate spaces where tents can be pitched.”

Seongju-gun frequently dispatches teams to dismantle illegally installed tents, persuades the owners, and installs banners at the sites of dismantled tents to prevent additional installations. For tourists who wish to rest, enjoy summer resorts, and appreciate the natural scenery on the same day, temporary cooking areas and restrooms will be installed and operated.
