Mercury to Launch Matter-Enabled Wi-Fi APs and Wi-Fi Modules Starting Next Year

Mercury announced on the 7th that it plans to sequentially equip Matter functionality in Wi-Fi internet routers (AP) and Wi-Fi modules released from 2024.

Last year, Mercury developed a prototype of a Matter product and verified its functionality, and this year it is developing prototypes for hubs and clients using it.

Matter is an Internet Protocol (IP)-based home IoT communication standard. The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) developed it in collaboration with major companies such as Google, Apple, and Amazon to enable connection and interoperability between IoT devices.

An official stated, "We are already leading the domestic market by supplying about 2 million Wi-Fi APs annually to domestic telecom operators and about 1 million Wi-Fi modules annually to home appliance companies," adding, "We are conducting activities related to discovering intelligent smart home service models and improving laws, systems, and regulations for industrial revitalization in the service and policy system divisions of the Korea Smart Home Industry Association."

He continued, "Based on this, we are striving for domestic Matter standardization and service activation," and added, "To standardize home IoT services, globally renowned home appliance and platform companies such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Amazon, Google, and Apple participate in the CSA organization, and Mercury is also active as a CSA member company."

Along with this, Mercury plans to provide an IoT total solution service using Matter in 2024, coinciding with product launches. As part of this, it is preparing a service integrated with the Matter solution by utilizing the EMS (Energy Management System) solution of Iject, a company acquired earlier this year. It is also reviewing standard devices equipped with AI artificial intelligence (generative AI).

A company official added, "Through Matter products and others, we plan to solidify our position as a specialized company in the Wi-Fi field and further develop into a home IoT solution service company, expanding the market not only domestically but also overseas."
