The tour included Representative Councilor Kim Jeong-im, along with councilors Baek Seong-ho, Jeong Gu-ho, Park Cheol-su, Kim Bora, and about 10 related officials from the council secretariat.

Daegu Modern History Alley was created by uncovering the local history and culture remaining in every corner of the alley to revitalize the downtown area, which had clearly experienced hollowing out. It is currently not only a representative tourist resource of Daegu but also gaining attention as a model for urban regeneration.

There, they experienced Daegu’s history, tradition, and culture by viewing the ‘Hyangchon Culture Center,’ ‘Modern History Museum,’ and ‘Local History Museum,’ which showcase the modern and contemporary appearance of Daegu and the lifestyles of ancestors.

The attending councilors shared the opinion on the necessity of building an archive that plays an important role in correctly understanding local history and forming regional identity while viewing various artifacts and displayed materials exhibited there.

Following this, the councilors focused on discovering cases to apply to their city by touring Bukseong-ro Tool Street, Gyeongsang Gamyeong Park, and Daegu Art Factory.

In particular, at ‘Bukseong-ro Tool Street,’ they shared ways to utilize the cultural value of their region by observing examples of unique spaces transformed from existing stores into cafes, bakeries inspired by tools, and bookstores selling works by local artists.

Representative Councilor Kim Jeong-im said, “It was a meaningful experience confirming that local interest and the rediscovery of hidden value can be a driving force to change the local community.” She added, “We will strive to make good use of the materials obtained through this advanced site tour to develop policies that embody our region’s unique history and culture.”
