Praised for Distinctive Efforts to Attract New Farmers and Rural Settlers
Gurye County, South Jeolla Province, announced that it received the Outstanding Local Government Award after actively promoting its efforts to attract new farmers at the "2023 A Farm Show: Start-up Farming and Returning to Hometown Love Expo," held at the aT Center in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, for three days starting September 1.
Celebrating its tenth edition this year, the expo brought together more than 280 local governments and organizations to provide the latest agricultural trends and information about starting a new life in the countryside to urban residents interested in farming and rural relocation.
At this largest-ever expo, Gurye County operated a dynamic promotional booth, introducing support policies for new farmers and rural settlers, offering tailored consultations, and hosting tasting events for local agricultural and specialty products.
In particular, the Gurye Settlement Housing Project, which remodels vacant homes to help urban residents settle down securely, and the systematic support activities of the Gurye County Stay-type Agricultural Start-up Support Center drew significant attention from many urban visitors.
Kim Sunho, the county governor, stated, "This expo was a great opportunity to showcase Gurye County’s excellent living conditions and diverse policies to urban residents dreaming of a second life," adding, "We will continue to do our best to help new farmers and rural settlers establish themselves stably and to revitalize the local community."
Meanwhile, Gurye County plans to participate in additional farming and rural relocation expos to be held in the second half of the year in places such as Suwon and BEXCO in Busan.
