Dwelling, a smart shelter specialist company (CEO Jeon Jeong-hwan), and Jung-gu District Office in Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gil-sung) have joined hands to create a ‘Jung-gu Type Smart Shelter’ for the convenience of citizens.

Dwelling announced on the afternoon of the 6th that it held an agreement ceremony on the ‘Jung-gu Type Smart Shelter Section Construction and Management Agency Project’ at the Jung-gu District Office in Seoul.

The ‘Smart Shelter’ is a transportation convenience facility installed around bus stops. It is a space designed to prepare for increasingly severe heatwaves, cold waves, and fine dust, where residents can rest safely and comfortably while also obtaining useful information for daily life.

Attending the agreement ceremony were Kim Gil-sung, Mayor of Jung-gu, Seoul; Jeong Wook-sung, Director of Safety, Construction and Transportation Bureau; Kim Ki-hwan, Head of Transportation Administration Division; Jeon Jeong-hwan, CEO of Dwelling; Jeong Sun-young, Head of Finance Headquarters; and Lim Hyung-gon, Head of Operations Headquarters.

At the event, Kim Gil-sung, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, “Jung-gu, boasting a 630-year history, is a place with a large floating population including foreign tourists, where tradition and modernity coexist,” adding, “I hope the Jung-gu Type Smart Shelter will not only satisfy residents but also serve as an opportunity to promote Jung-gu.”

He continued, “I hope Dwelling will create excellent works and provide good services.”

In response, Jeon Jeong-hwan, CEO of Dwelling, emphasized, “There are high expectations for the Jung-gu Type Smart Shelter, which is the most visited and viewed by foreign tourists,” and added, “We will put all of Dwelling’s capabilities into making it a world-class masterpiece and a landmark of Jung-gu.”

He also stated, “We will accelerate overseas exports to the Middle East, including UAE Dubai and Saudi Arabia, which are becoming more visible through strengthening references such as the Jung-gu Type Smart Shelter.”

The ‘Jung-gu Type Smart Shelter’ is planned to be installed in 20 locations including in front of Seoul City Hall, Myeong-dong, Euljiro, Dongdaemun, and Yaksu Station, reflecting the characteristics of Jung-gu’s high floating population.

The ‘Jung-gu Type Smart Shelter’ is equipped with heating and cooling devices to help citizens avoid heatwaves and cold waves, and features continuous air quality monitoring and purification functions to maintain safe indoor air quality against fine dust and viruses through air purification and sterilization.

In addition, large kiosks will provide various information such as bus routes and real-time bus arrivals, as well as Jung-gu district activities, and a real-time news ON AIR partnership service with the reliable news channel YTN.

Free Wi-Fi, smart chairs equipped with heating and mobile phone charging functions, and other facilities will also be installed.

Especially, to prepare for various dangerous situations such as indiscriminate crimes, which have recently become social issues, the smart shelter will serve as a ‘safe zone’ where people can evacuate and request rescue in emergencies. CCTV, emergency bells, a 24-hour remote security monitoring system, and safety equipment such as automated external defibrillators and fire extinguishers for emergency patients will be installed.

This agreement was made to ensure smooth and successful project implementation after Jung-gu, Seoul selected Dwelling as the project operator through a bidding announcement in June.

The ‘Jung-gu Type Smart Shelter’ project is promoted as a private investment (BTO) project, with Dwelling manufacturing and installing the smart shelters, donating them to Jung-gu, maintaining and managing them for five years, and earning revenue through advertising operation rights.

Founded in 2015, Dwelling has attracted industry attention with its air care solution business and is solidifying its position as a specialized smart station company by cooperating with various local governments in Korea.

Currently, Dwelling operates about 1,200 shelters including 20 ‘Green Smart Zones’ installed in Gangnam-gu, general bus stops, and smart shelters throughout Seoul, and holds about 4,500 advertising spaces, making it one of the largest outdoor advertising operators in Korea.

In November last year, Dwelling signed an agreement with the Mongolian government, opening the door to exporting ‘K-Smart Stations.’

It has also started collaboration discussions with NEOM City, a big project in Saudi Arabia, and is a corporate member of the international startup organization WeGO.
