Repeated Contact via Messenger ID, Calls Also Continue
A man in his 30s who served time in prison for stalking (excessive approach) was sentenced to prison again for the same crime just four months after his release.
The Criminal Division 1 of Changwon District Court in Gyeongnam announced on the 6th that it sentenced Mr. A, a man in his 30s charged with stalking, to two years in prison and ordered him to complete 120 hours of a stalking treatment program.
According to the court, Mr. A was prosecuted for repeatedly sending photos and messages via mobile messenger to Ms. B and Ms. C, employees in their 20s at a hair salon in Changwon City last April, and for making dozens of phone calls to the salon.
The messages sent by Mr. A amounted to 14 times to Ms. B and 12 times to Ms. C, and the number of calls made to the salon to find them reached 29.
At the time, it was found that Mr. A learned about the hair salon through an internet search and contacted Ms. B and Ms. C using the messenger IDs disclosed on the salon’s reservation website.
Mr. A is also accused of contacting the work mobile phone of Ms. D’s mother, another victim in her 20s, 16 times. Despite receiving an order from the Seoul Western District Court last April to stop stalking crimes and to prohibit contact via wired and wireless communication, he contacted her six more times until May.
Previously, Mr. A was sentenced to one year in prison for stalking crimes in June of last year and was released in December of the same year.
The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, “He has already been sentenced to imprisonment for the same type of crime and repeatedly stalked multiple victims during the recidivism period, showing very poor criminal nature. The victims experienced considerable fear and anxiety, and he continued to make incomprehensible excuses and claims after the crime, raising a high risk of reoffending.”
