Global coffee brand illycaffe S.p.A. announced that it will participate as the official partner of Frieze Seoul once again this year. Frieze Seoul, one of the world's top three art fairs, is the most important international contemporary art fair, with over 120 galleries from 30 countries participating this year, marking its second consecutive event held in Seoul.
Illy has adopted the natural language of art to engage with society and has been presenting the illy Art Collection, which embodies its values and philosophy, for 30 years to provide coffee lovers with an enriched and maximized coffee experience. The illy Art Collection features everyday white espresso cups and saucers as canvases, on which renowned artists have passionately expressed their spirit and artistic enthusiasm.
From September 6 to September 9, visitors and exhibitors at Frieze Seoul who visit the illy Lounge (Sector B) can relax and enjoy the newly launched illy Art Collection "Judy Chicago." The sophisticated design by the American artist combined with the pleasant aroma of illy coffee offers a visual and olfactory experience that connects with contemporary art.
Judy Chicago, an artist famous for depicting the roles and achievements of women throughout history and culture, shows through this illy Art Collection the transition from the social constraints historically imposed on women to cultural and creative freedom. Each cup in the collection represents historically significant women from different eras through originality, including French Queen Marie Antoinette, novelist, philosopher, and political essayist Madame de Sta?l, feminist writer George Sand, and author Virginia Woolf.
Christina Scocchia, CEO of illycaffe, said, “We are proud to be the global coffee partner of Frieze Seoul, a world-class art fair that shares the core values of passion for inclusion and sharing,” adding, “illycaffe expresses its identity through contemporary art, with which it has built long-term relationships for over 30 years.”
Yoon Sang-jin, Executive Director of Quro Holdings, the exclusive Korean partner of Italy’s illycaffe, said, “We are proud to showcase illycaffe’s core value of engaging with society through the arts through the second collaboration between the illy Art Collection and Frieze Seoul,” and added, “We hope that illycaffe will receive much interest and love not only for this exhibition but also for making every cup of coffee special in everyday life.”
