Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, Attends Topping-out Ceremony for Arcade Construction in Yungmun Market Facility Modernization Project

Praying for the Successful Construction of the Yongmun Market Arcade in Front of Gate 7, Yongsan Yongmun Market at 5 PM on the 5th

Park Hee-young, the mayor of Yongsan District, attended the 'Yongmun Market Facility Modernization Project Arcade Construction Topping-out Ceremony' at 5 p.m. on the 5th.

The topping-out ceremony is a traditional ritual performed when building a house, where a beam is placed on top of the pillars, the roof frame is decorated, and then the ridgepole (sangryang) is raised.

This topping-out ceremony was hosted by the Yongmun Market Merchants Association. Following the introduction of guests, welcome remarks, and congratulatory speeches, the guests held a white cloth connected to the top of the arcade and prayed for 'safe construction' instead of performing the ritual of raising the ridgepole.

Yongmun Market, established in 1948, had outdated facilities and was in urgent need of redevelopment. Accordingly, the district invested about 3 billion won in the project and is promoting the modernization project until the end of the year.

The main contents include ▲renovation of storefront facades and corridor floors ▲installation of an arcade ▲maintenance of fire-fighting, electrical, and communication facilities ▲securing fire-fighting facilities and fire roads ▲improvement of street vendor stands ▲installation of signboards, etc.

Park Hee-young, mayor of Yongsan District, said in his congratulatory speech, “As the facility modernization project nears completion, the district is striving to finish the remaining construction quickly and safely,” and added, “Let all merchants, building owners, and residents unite to make Yongmun Market stand tall as a premium market in Korea.”
