Drunk Driver Asleep in the Middle of the Road
Apprehended with Help from Another Citizen's Vehicle
A drunk driver was eventually caught with the help of citizens after a chase with the police.
On the 5th, the official YouTube channel of the National Police Agency posted a video titled "A life-risking run! A fantastic collaboration with citizens."
According to the released video, on June 24th, the police responded to a report of a car stopped on a roadside in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province. When the police officer found the vehicle in question, he requested, "Please roll down the window," but driver A was sleeping soundly in the middle of the road.

Judging that it was highly likely to be drunk driving, the police tried to stop the vehicle on the right side of the road. A seemed to stop the car on the shoulder but then disobeyed the police's orders and sped away.
The police officer tried to block the escape by running alongside A’s vehicle. Seeing this, a white truck also cut in front of A’s vehicle to block the escape route.
However, A quickly turned direction and fled again on another road. Fortunately, another patrol car that had been waiting after predicting the escape route found A’s vehicle and quickly approached.
The police officer who stopped the patrol car ran quickly toward A’s vehicle. At this time, a citizen blocked the escape route with their own vehicle like the white truck, and the police succeeded in catching A.
At the time, A’s blood alcohol concentration was reported to be 0.179%, indicating a state of severe intoxication. The police arrested A on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act and obstructing official duties.
The police said, "Thanks to the passionate police officers who did not give up and the fantastic collaboration with two citizens, we were able to prevent a crime," and "We sincerely thank the citizens who helped catch the drunk driver."
