Establishing and Implementing Special Measures to Create a Safe Maritime Culture
Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kim Hae-cheol) has established the "2023 Autumn Fishing Boat Accident Prevention Special Measures" to create a safe maritime culture and prevent maritime accidents.
According to Mokpo Maritime Police on the 6th, as the number of fishing participants is expected to increase due to the hairtail fishing events in the Mokpo and Yeongam areas from the 21st of last month to December 10th, a special fishing boat measure will be implemented from the 5th to November 30th (about three months).
The Maritime Police plans to promote "visiting fire prevention activities," conducting safety inspections of fire-prone areas such as engine room engine oil, wire insulation, and battery terminals at least once daily before fishing boats depart.
Additionally, through meetings held among Mokpo Maritime Police, local governments, and the Fishing Boat Association, communication channels will be maintained by sharing fishing boat accident cases, and safety rules will be promoted to fishing operators and passengers.
A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, "We will strive to proactively prevent accidents by fostering safe fishing practices and maritime culture," and urged, "Fishing operators and users should also strictly observe safety rules such as refraining from drinking onboard and wearing life jackets to pay special attention to preventing maritime accidents."
