Yeosu City Youth Basic Ordinance, Youth Age Set from 18 to 45 Years Old

Existing 19-39 Age Group, Beneficiaries Increase by 25,000

Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it has expanded the youth age range in the Youth Basic Ordinance to 18 to 45 years old.

According to the city on the 6th, in response to the recent trend of raising the youth age range and to prevent youth outflow from the region and attract youth population, the Youth Basic Ordinance was revised to raise the youth age from the previous 19 to 39 years old to 18 to 45 years old.

As a result, as of the end of August, the youth population in Yeosu City increased by about 25,300 from the previous 61,300 (22.5% of the total population) to 86,600 (31.8%).

With the expansion of the age range, people in their 40s, who play a central role in Yeosu City's economic and social population, have been included as beneficiaries of youth policies, and by guaranteeing participation opportunities for various groups in youth projects, it is expected to greatly contribute to the promotion of youth rights.

In addition, the city newly established provisions for ‘socially isolated youth’ and ‘support for out-of-region youth’ in the Youth Basic Ordinance, and plans to discover many new youth policy projects in 2024 to expand youth projects such as youth jobs, housing, and living.

Kim Tae-wan, head of the Youth Employment Division, said, “The adjustment of the youth age range will expand the target of youth support policies, providing an opportunity for youth to grow and settle in the region,” and added, “Based on this, we will further expand youth policies to create ‘Yeosu City where youth lead urban growth.’”
