Production of 25,000 tons in 2026
Third Overseas Production Base
Solus Advanced Materials has broken ground on Canada's first copper foil (battery foil) factory for electric vehicle batteries. This is the third overseas battery foil production base following factories in Luxembourg and Hungary.
On the 5th (local time), Solus Advanced Materials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the battery foil factory at its Granby factory in Quebec, Canada, attended by key government officials including Fran?ois Legault, Premier of Quebec, Fran?ois-Philippe Champagne, Canadian Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, and Im Woong-soon, Ambassador of Korea to Canada.

The factory plans to start phased mass production from 2025 and produce 25,000 tons of battery foil annually by 2026. The new factory will be built by expanding and remodeling an existing factory building owned by a subsidiary of Solus Advanced Materials' European branch, Circuit Foil Luxembourg.
In the future, two additional factories will be added on the site to expand production capacity up to 63,000 tons per year. This scale is sufficient to supply battery foil for approximately 2.5 million electric vehicles, making it the largest battery foil production base in North America.
The Quebec government’s economic development fund has promised to provide an interest-free loan of about 150 million Canadian dollars (approximately 150 billion KRW) in advance. The total subsidy amount is currently under consultation with the federal government.
Premier Legault said, "Quebec is currently preparing several important projects that will attract significant investments in the automotive battery industry over the coming years, and will solidify its position as a green economy leader in North America." He added, "We are very proud that Granby has become the first city in Canada to produce copper foil (battery foil) for electric vehicle batteries through Solus Advanced Materials' factory."
Jin Dae-je, Chairman of Solus Advanced Materials, said, "A huge North American electric vehicle market is opening. Canada, a key hub in the North American market, is also rapidly fostering the electric vehicle industry." He added, "Through a factory with an annual capacity of 63,000 tons, we will supply global-level battery foil to domestic and international customers in the North American region."
