"It is a meaningful tournament where the winner can receive tour cards for three tours."
The 39th Shinhan Donghae Open (total prize money 1.4 billion KRW) is jointly organized by three tours: the Korean Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Korean Tour, the Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO), and the Asian Tour. Representing the three tours, Daiichi Go (Hong Kong), Lee Jae-kyung, Kim Sung-hyun, Nakajima Keita, and Kawamoto Riki (all from Japan, from left) showed strong determination for victory at the official tournament photo call held on the 5th at the Shinhan Bank headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul. The tournament will be held over four days from the 7th at Incheon Club72 (par 72, 7,204 yards).
Kim Sung-hyun, who spent a season on the PGA Tour, said, "I couldn't participate last year because I contracted COVID-19, but I am looking forward to the opportunity to compete again this year." He added, "Since this is a sponsor tournament, I want to play hard and achieve good results." Lee Jae-kyung, who is currently first in the Korean Tour's points standings, said, "I am excited because I usually want to compete against foreign players," and vowed, "I will steadily play my game and work hard aiming for the championship."
Nakajima, who is second in the JGTO money list this season, said, "This is my first time in Korea, so I have no information about the course. I plan to understand the course well during the tournament and fully utilize it on the final day to have a chance to win." Kawamoto, who ranks first in driving distance on the JGTO with 325.1 yards, stated, "I will use my greatest strength, driving distance, to challenge for the top spot."
Among the participants are 2019 Shinhan Donghae Open champion J.B. Kruger (South Africa), three-time Asian Tour winner Miguel Tabuena (Philippines), Sadom Kaewkanjana (Thailand), Daiichi Go, Gaganjeet Bhullar (India), and Siddikur Rahman (Bangladesh). Park Chan-ho, the 'Korean Express' who holds the record for the most wins by an Asian player in the major leagues (124 wins), is also participating as a recommended player.
