The campaign to ban the use of disposable cups is being expanded to 31 cities and counties within Gyeonggi Province.

On the 4th, Gyeonggi Province announced on the 5th that it held a 'Disposable Plastic Zero Practice Declaration Ceremony' with 31 cities and counties at the provincial government multipurpose conference room.

The declaration ceremony was organized to spread Gyeonggi Province's disposable plastic zero policy to cities and counties, reduce the use of disposable products, and promote the habitual use of reusable products through cooperation in the public sector.

At the event, Yeom Tae-young, Deputy Governor for Economy of the province, and deputy heads of the cities and counties agreed on ▲ converting stores in public office buildings to reusable cup-only stores and establishing a system for collecting and washing reusable cups ▲ transitioning to local festivals without disposable products ▲ expanding support for reusable products and promoting their active use.

They also agreed to continuously expand a culture of practice for carbon neutrality, including reducing disposable plastic use, with public institutions taking the lead.

Following this, the participants performed a ceremony symbolizing "Gyeonggi Province and 31 cities and counties will reduce disposable plastics." Reusable or recycled items were used during the event.

Deputy Governor Yeom Tae-young said, "In response to the worsening climate crisis, reducing disposable plastics will be the starting point to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050," and added, "I hope that the plastic zero practice declared by the province and the 31 cities and counties working hand in hand will serve as a foundation for positive changes in the awareness of the residents."

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province declared 'Disposable Plastic Zero' last year and has been actively promoting the reduction of disposable product use in public institutions through measures such as operating a rental and washing system for reusable containers within government buildings, banning disposable cups inside government buildings since April this year, and revising ordinances on disposable products.
