Lee Jae-myung "A Step Towards Soft Dictatorship"
Lee Hae-chan, former leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, visited Lee Jae-myung, the party leader who was on the fifth day of his hunger strike on the 4th, criticizing the Yoon Seok-yeol administration by saying, "If this continues, it will lead to fascism."
Lee, a standing advisor of the Democratic Party, visited the hunger strike tent in front of the National Assembly main building that afternoon and said, "(The current government) destroys laws made by the National Assembly through enforcement ordinances, pays on behalf when the Supreme Court issues a 'forced labor' ruling, and blocks nighttime assemblies permitted by the Constitutional Court on site," adding, "The constitutional system is collapsing."
In response, Lee Jae-myung said, "It feels like there is an attempt to overturn democracy, the legal system, common sense, and principles from some deep root. It seems there is a will to create a new order," and added, "It seems like they are dreaming of a reign of terror through information control, which is completely incompatible with the 21st-century information society."
He also added regarding Lee Hae-chan's 'fascism' remark, "It is heading toward soft dictatorship. It seems to have reached that stage."
Lee Hae-chan encouraged Lee Jae-myung's hunger strike by saying, "He made a great decision to raise awareness. The public is also watching very carefully with heightened awareness."
At the tent where Lee Jae-myung was conducting the hunger strike, lawmakers Kim Byung-joo, Moon Jung-bok, and Yang Yi-won-young, who joined the 'sympathy hunger strike' for the day, were also present. Afterwards, Lee Jae-myung and Lee Hae-chan moved to the party leader's office for a private meeting.
Meanwhile, Kim Kwan-young, governor of Jeonbuk Province and a member of the Democratic Party, also visited the National Assembly that day to support Lee Jae-myung's 'hunger strike.' Earlier, five standing advisors, including advisor Kim Tae-rang, also visited Lee Jae-myung.
