Increase of 213,000 KRW per month in livelihood benefits for 4-person households next year
Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 5th that the median income for National Basic Livelihood Security recipients will be significantly increased in 2024.
The standard median income will rise by 6.09% compared to last year, and the livelihood benefit support criteria will also expand from 30% to 32% of the median income.
The 2024 livelihood benefit amount for a four-person household will be 1,834,000 KRW, an increase of 213,000 KRW from this year’s 1,621,000 KRW. This is the first time in seven years since 2017 that the livelihood benefit support criteria have been raised, and it is expected that the number of new beneficiaries will increase next year.
The 2024 medical benefit support criteria have been set at 40% of the median income, the same as this year, and the application of the support obligation criteria for caregivers of severely disabled medical benefit recipients will be excluded. Previously, if there were parents or children with a certain level of income or higher, the individual was excluded from medical benefits, but next year, only the income and assets of the severely disabled individual’s household will be considered for eligibility.
Geochang-gun plans to actively promote the new benefits to eligible recipients following the increase in the 2024 National Basic Livelihood Security median income and the abolition of the caregiver obligation for severely disabled medical benefit recipients.
Meanwhile, the standard median income is the median value of national household income announced by the Minister of Health and Welfare after deliberation and resolution by the Central Livelihood Security Committee. It is currently used as the selection criterion for 73 projects across 13 ministries, including the Basic Livelihood Security system.
