Lee Bok-hyun, Financial Supervisory Service Chief, "No Plans to Run in Next Year's General Election or Enter Politics"

Attendance at the National Assembly Political Affairs Committee Plenary Meeting on the 4th

Lee Bok-hyun, former prosecutor and the current Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS), who was widely expected to run in the next general election, drew a clear line by stating that he has "no intention to run in next year's election or engage in politics."

On the 4th, during the plenary session of the National Assembly's Political Affairs Committee, when Kim Jong-min, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, asked if he planned to run in next year's election amid criticism that political aspirants have damaged the FSS, Lee responded, "Not at all."

Regarding the preferential redemption of Lime Fund and the involvement of a multi-term lawmaker, when Kim pointed out that "the FSS should not intervene in politics by mentioning names," Lee said, "I don't know if it's right that only I am being questioned without a single apology from those who benefited or their colleagues in a case where so many victims occurred," adding, "If I had received any benefits, I would start by apologizing."

He then emphasized, "I have no intention of engaging in politics," and stressed, "I believe strict measures are necessary against those who damage the capital market."

Lee, who worked alongside President Yoon Seok-yeol when Yoon was the head of the Criminal Investigation Division 1 at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in 2006, investigating Hyundai Motor's slush funds and the undervalued sale of Lone Star's foreign exchange bank, has been called part of the "Yoon Seok-yeol faction," drawing attention to whether he will run in next year's general election.
