Up to 3,000 Won Provided for Using Reusable Containers
Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kang Ki-jung) announced on the 4th that starting from the 6th, it will conduct a ‘Bring Your Own Container Campaign (Reusable Container Usage Event)’ in collaboration with the public delivery app (WEMAKEPRICE O) to reduce single-use delivery containers.
The campaign was launched to reduce single-use products and waste by awarding delivery app points to citizens who order food and beverages for delivery or takeout using reusable or personal containers through the public delivery app.
Citizens who wish to participate can find ‘Participating Stores’ on the Gwangju city website, social media platforms (such as blogs), or the WEMAKEPRICE O app, and then click the icons labeled ‘Reusable Container’ or ‘Bring Your Own Container Pickup.’
‘Participating Stores’ are either stores that use reusable delivery containers owned by the store for food and beverage delivery and collection, or stores that package orders in personal containers for pickup.
The eligible stores include general restaurants (Korean, Chinese, Western cuisine, etc.) and snack bars (coffee shops, snack shops, salad shops, lunchbox shops, fast food, etc.).
After selecting the desired option on the app, customers must include the required keywords indicating reusable or personal containers in the request section, bring their food and drinks in these containers, and then upload a photo review containing the required keywords.
The required keywords for reusable containers are reusable container, reusable delivery container, bowl, or container; for bring your own container pickup, the keywords are personal container, personal cup (tumbler), side dish container, or bring your own container.
Points can be used on WEMAKEPRICE O and are awarded at 10% of the order amount, up to a maximum of 3,000 points (3,000 KRW). The campaign will continue within a budget limit of 10 million KRW.
Since recruiting ‘Participating Stores’ in June, the number has reached 160 locations.
Gwangju City plans to continuously promote the ‘Participating Stores’ that lead the use of reusable containers through the Gwangju city website and social media (SNS). Additional stores can participate by having the owners apply by phone to the Resource Circulation Division.
Lee Jeong-shin, head of the Resource Circulation Division, said, “Using reusable containers in daily life is a habit that protects the Earth and a shortcut to a plastic-free society,” and added, “We ask for the active interest and participation of all citizens.”
