Recruitment of Participating Companies for the '2023 Gangwon Next Unicorn Project'
The Small and Medium Business Corporation (Chairman Kang Seok-jin, hereinafter referred to as SBC) announced on the 4th that it will publicly recruit companies to participate in the '2023 Gangwon Next Unicorn Project' at the Youth Startup Academy.
The Gangwon Next Unicorn Project (hereinafter referred to as the Project) has been promoted annually since 2019 to achieve balanced regional economic development. It is a project that supports the relocation of youth startup companies to the Gangwon region. This project is operated in cooperation with SBC, Kangwon Land, the Local Era Committee, the Foundation for Cooperation between Large, Medium, and Small Enterprises and Agriculture and Fisheries, and the Korea Mine Reclamation Corporation.
In particular, starting this year, the recruitment target has been expanded from existing Youth Startup Academy graduate companies to include SBC youth-exclusive startup fund beneficiary companies, aiming to discover competitive youth startups.
The recruitment process is an open competitive selection method, selecting three final companies through document screening, preliminary screening, and final screening. Companies advancing to the preliminary round will be given the opportunity to thoroughly review the relocation site through on-site inspections by local governments and will also receive coaching to prepare for the presentation screening.
The final selected companies will receive benefits such as ▲up to 1 billion KRW in support funds per company (funded by Kangwon Land) ▲policy fund loans and investment linkage (SBC) ▲win-win program linkage support (Foundation for Cooperation between Large, Medium, and Small Enterprises and Agriculture and Fisheries) ▲preferential support for alternative industry loans in abandoned mine promotion districts (Korea Mine Reclamation Corporation) ▲relocation subsidies and tax reductions (local governments). The final selected companies must relocate at least one of their headquarters or factories to one of the following locations in Gangwon Province?Taebaek City, Samcheok City, Yeongwol County, or Jeongseon County?within three years from the date of selection.
Jo Han-gyo, Head of the Human Resources Growth Division at SBC, said, "The Gangwon Next Unicorn Project is a business where local governments and related organizations join hands to simultaneously support the innovative growth of youth startups and the revitalization of the regional economy." He added, "SBC will actively support excellent companies so that they can create quality jobs and grow as pillars supporting balanced regional development."
