The Gyeongsangnam-do Branch of the Korea Special Meritorious Persons Association conducted an underwater cleanup activity around Seongpohang Port in Geoje City on the 2nd, despite the rainy weather.
On this day, over 150 members and citizens participated, along with Seo Il-jun, a member of the National Assembly from the People Power Party; Yoon Jun-young, a member of the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Council's Culture and Welfare Committee; Yang Tae-seok, a member of the Geoje City Council's Operations Committee; Park Jong-woo, Mayor of Geoje City; Kim Hwan-jung, Chairman of the Geoje Chamber of Commerce and Industry and concurrently Chairman of the Geoje Sports Council; Kim Myung-man, Superintendent of Geoje Police Station; and many other distinguished guests.
The Korea Special Meritorious Veterans Association Gyeongsangnam-do Branch conducted underwater cleanup activities around Seongpo Port in Geoje City.
Due to recent heavy rains, marine debris and floating waste carried by ocean currents were cleaned underwater by professional divers composed of members, while other members and citizens focused on collecting various types of household waste around the port.
Branch Chief Na Bong-chun stated, “This is the second year we have conducted underwater cleanup activities at Seongpohang Port, continuing our efforts to create a clean sea area in Gyeongnam every year. We will continue to raise awareness of the importance of the marine environment in the local community and play a continuous role as guardians of the sea so that citizens can experience a safer and cleaner ocean.”
Approximately 21 tons of marine waste and other debris were collected on this day, all of which were fully collected by Geoje City.
