Recently, the number of customers looking for spicy ramen at convenience stores has increased significantly. Seven Eleven stated that sales of about 10 representative spicy ramen products, including Yeolramyeon and Buldak Bokkeummyeon, rose by 50% in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year.
In response to the spicy ramen craze, Seven Eleven partnered with Ottogi to release a PB ramen that adds spiciness to a rich, spicy flavor. Seven Eleven's representative PB cup ramen, Seven Select Daepa Ramyeon, features a spicy yukgaejang broth base and uses freeze-dried green onion strips blocks, providing a crunchy and rich texture. It has been popular as a hangover ramen with its sharp and refreshing green onion flavor and has consistently ranked in the top 5 in sales among Seven Eleven's cup noodles since its launch in 2019.
The newly released Seven Select Daepa Yeolramyeon combines the refreshing taste of Daepa Ramyeon with the spicy flavor of Yeolramyeon. Seven Select Daepa Yeolramyeon is also spicier than the original Yeolramyeon product. The Scoville Heat Unit (SHU) of the existing Yeolramyeon Large Cup Original, which quantifies the concentration of capsaicin in chili peppers to indicate spiciness, is 4500 SHU, whereas the newly launched Seven Select Daepa Yeolramyeon has a Scoville rating of 5000 SHU.
Seven Eleven expects that Daepa Yeolramyeon, which combines the strengths of the two companies' popular ramen products to create a new spicy flavor, will receive great response from spicy ramen enthusiasts. A 2+1 promotion will also be held throughout September.
