Yongsan-gu, Abundant Events Celebrating Gender Equality Week

Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Park Hee-young) will hold an event to commemorate Gender Equality Week (September 1-7) on the 7th at the Garam Small Theater on the 1st floor of Yongsan Art Hall (150 Noksapyeong-daero). The purpose is to communicate with residents and raise awareness of the meaning of a gender-equal society and to realize it.


The event consists of ▲ Part 1: Commemoration Ceremony ▲ Part 2: Cultural Performance ▲ Experience Booths. About 300 people, including Park Hee-young, mayor of Yongsan-gu, members of women's organizations, and local residents, are expected to attend.


The Part 1 commemoration ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. Meritorious persons who contributed to realizing a gender-equal society will be recognized and awarded. This year, 16 people, including Park Hyun-sook from Huam-dong, will receive awards.


A performance pledging to practice gender equality is also prepared. The mayor and residents will together shout this year’s Gender Equality Week slogan, “Yongsan, a gender-equal city where we work together and care together.”


Immediately following, Part 2 will feature the play My Mother Su-yeon. It is a narrative drama depicting the lives of three women and one man against the backdrop of three generations of a noble family. Actors Sami-ja, Lee Jong-nam, Choi Jong-nam, and Lee Seong-gyeong will appear.


From 2:30 p.m. on the day, experience booths enjoyable for all ages will be operated in the lobby of Garam Small Theater. Five organizations related to gender equality have prepared activities such as ▲ making hand mirrors ▲ making natural insect repellents ▲ hand massage ▲ metabolic syndrome screening.


In addition to the commemorative event, four organizations will continue activities during Gender Equality Week to expand women’s social participation and promote gender equality.


Throughout the week, the Illegal Filming Citizen Surveillance Team will inspect illegal filming devices in restrooms in the area. On the 4th, the Yongsan Women’s Human Resources Development Center will distribute sharing lunch boxes to 20 vulnerable people. On the 5th, the Yongsan Women Leaders Club will hold a Happiness Narae special lecture for 20 female residents. The Yongsan-gu Disabled Welfare Center will hold flower arranging and leather crafts for 10 caregivers of children with disabilities on the 5th and 6th.


Park Hee-young, mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “Through this Gender Equality Week, all residents will reflect on the meaning of respecting and coexisting with each other regardless of gender or age,” and added, “The district will continue practical efforts for ‘Yongsan, a gender-equal city where everyone is happy.”


Meanwhile, to realize gender equality, the district has established five major policy tasks this year?▲ labor environment ▲ care safety net ▲ violence response and gender awareness ▲ gender equality culture ▲ policy foundation strengthening?and is promoting 35 detailed projects.
