Gwangju Buk-gu Secures Volume for Public Building Green Remodeling Project

The Public Building Green Remodeling Project competition targets old public buildings that have been completed for more than 10 years, supporting improvements in energy performance and residential environment. Especially from this year, the support target was expanded to include senior citizen centers used by the elderly.

Accordingly, Buk-gu actively responded to the competition so that the elderly could use the senior citizen centers comfortably, and 10 senior citizen centers were selected as target sites, which is the largest number of projects in the Gwangju area.

With the selection in this competition, Buk-gu secured a project budget of about 1.3 billion KRW, plans to complete preliminary administrative procedures such as budget allocation within this year, and will promptly proceed with remodeling work on the senior citizen centers starting from January next year, including insulation work, window replacement, heating and cooling system replacement, and installation of high-efficiency lighting.

A Buk-gu official said, "Once this green remodeling project is completed, the senior citizen centers will be transformed into cozy spaces for the elderly throughout all four seasons and eco-friendly buildings by enhancing energy efficiency," adding, "Since a significant portion of energy consumption is accounted for by buildings, we will continue to strive to promote and expand the public building green remodeling project to achieve carbon neutrality."
