Elderly Couple Rescued from Building Fire
Wanju Fire Station "Plans to Award Students"
The story of two middle school students who entered a burning building and rescued an elderly couple with limited mobility has been shared.
According to the Wanju Fire Station in Jeonbuk on the 1st, a fire broke out around 5 p.m. the previous day in the kitchen of a restaurant located on the first floor of a four-story building in Bongdong-eup, Wanju-gun, Jeonbuk.
Middle school students Jeon Doyeong and Jang Suin, who were at a play facility on the third floor of the same building, came outside to assess the situation. At that time, black smoke was rising from the building.
Then, Jeon and Jang heard a resident’s voice saying, "There is an elderly man with limited mobility on the fourth floor," and they went back into the building. Two elderly people with limited mobility were living on the fourth floor, and the two students supported them and safely exited the building.
Afterwards, the fire authorities who received the report arrived and extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes.
The Wanju Fire Station explained that during this process, Jeon and Jang inhaled smoke and complained of dizziness but were not seriously injured. The elderly couple rescued by the students were also reported to be in no life-threatening condition.
A Wanju Fire Station official said, "Thanks to the two students, the elderly people with limited mobility were able to evacuate quickly," and added, "We plan to award these brave individuals."
