Gwanak-gu Establishes 365 Life Safety Team to Protect Residents' Safety

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is making every effort to respond to alleviate residents' anxiety caused by the recent consecutive violent crimes and to create a safe living environment.

First, on the 21st of last month, the district formed the 'Gwanak-gu Life Safety Dedicated TF (Task Force)' to quickly and thoroughly prepare measures such as crime prevention. Centered on the TF, a 'Life Safety Project Promotion Plan Report Meeting' was held to understand the district's current status, characteristics, and causes of crime, and to establish systematic countermeasures.

Also, on August 30th, the district urgently held the second 'Gwanak-gu Regional Public Safety Council Meeting' of this year to share life safety measures with related organizations.

At the meeting, 22 security-related officials gathered, including Chairman Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, the Chairperson of Gwanak-gu Council, the Chief of Gwanak Police Station, and the Superintendent of Dongjak-Gwanak Office of Education, exchanging various opinions on preventing violent crimes.

Gwanak-gu shared 22 'Life Safety Measures for Violent Crime Prevention' in four areas: ▲strengthening on-site patrols focusing on safety-vulnerable areas ▲establishing crime prevention facilities (infrastructure) ▲reorganizing crime prevention promotion systems and strengthening inter-agency cooperation ▲expanding women's safety services and promoting safety awareness. Meanwhile, Gwanak Police Station shared 12 items of the 'Gwanak Public Safety Early Stabilization TF' in three areas: ▲creating safe spaces ▲preparing for risk factors ▲consultative bodies.

Along with this, many opinions were gathered to create a safe Gwanak-gu, including ▲supporting safety equipment for autonomous crime prevention squad members ▲promoting long-term patrol activities ▲strengthening patrols on students' way home from school ▲providing counseling support for reclusive individuals.

In particular, to promote stable life safety measures, the district will establish the '365 Life Safety Team' dedicated to life safety tasks starting September 1st.

The '365 Life Safety Team' will perform roles such as ▲establishing comprehensive life safety plans ▲overseeing life safety project progress by department ▲promoting various crime prevention projects, concentrating all capabilities to create a 'Safe Living Space Gwanak' where residents can live with peace of mind 365 days a year from violent crimes.

Additionally, the district plans to continuously implement and expand various life safety projects such as joint patrols by civilians, government, and police, operating safety security guards at community service centers, organizing forest path safety keepers, and expanding the operation of national point numbers on forest paths.

Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, said, “Cooperation with related organizations such as the district council, police, fire department, and education office is very important to create a safe living environment,” and added, “We will spare no support to thoroughly implement safety measures tailored to our district's characteristics and residents' needs to create a ‘Safe Gwanak-gu.’”
