[IFA 2023] Samsung 'SmartThings' Hyperconnectivity Experienced Across Berlin

'Net Zero Home' Construction
Operation Also at Major Stores Including 'KaDeWe' Department Store and 'Media Markt'

Samsung Electronics is operating experience zones throughout Berlin, Germany, where visitors can feel the convenience of SmartThings. This is part of Samsung's strategy to actively showcase the 'connected' experience and eco-friendly technology in Europe.

On the 1st, Samsung Electronics announced that it will build a tiny house with a single-person household concept as an eco-friendly future residential type called 'Net Zero Home' on the outskirts of City Cube, the IFA 2023 exhibition hall in Berlin, Germany. A premium experience zone has been set up at Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe), the second largest department store in Europe.

Additionally, in collaboration with MediaMarkt and Saturn, the largest electronics retailers in Europe, experience zones will also be operated at major stores located in central areas such as Alexanderplatz and Europa Center.

At the experience zones, consumers can enjoy a richer and more convenient daily life offered by SmartThings, including ▲'Home Control,' which allows control of various home appliances and lighting to create customized home environments for different situations or check the status of the refrigerator ▲'Security and Care,' which enables checking who pressed the doorbell of 'Google Nest' or monitoring the home and pets through the camera installed in the 'Bespoke Jet Bot AI' ▲'Energy Saving,' which allows turning appliances on and off and monitoring energy consumption ▲'Well-being,' where users can receive exercise guidance through a smart TV and check real-time calorie consumption with a 'Galaxy Watch.'

In particular, the Net Zero Home is composed of various SmartThings partner products, including Samsung Electronics TVs, various Bespoke appliances, Galaxy devices, heat pumps, as well as SMA Solar Technology’s home solar inverters and batteries, ABB’s smart meters and switches, and Philips Hue smart bulbs.

Visitors can see how energy is produced directly at home using solar panels and home batteries, and how energy consumption by devices such as home appliances and electric vehicle chargers is efficiently managed through SmartThings Energy.

On the 31st (local time), Samsung Electronics emphasized at a press conference that it will take the lead in realizing 'meaningful connections' with what matters most to people from the perspectives of environment, people, and the future, beyond just device-to-device connections.

Benjamin Brown, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Samsung Electronics Europe, said, "Our own research confirmed that 70% of European consumers have high expectations for innovation in smart homes. We will continue to develop the SmartThings ecosystem, which is currently used by more than 280 million people worldwide, to expand the 'meaningful connection' experience that allows people to focus more on what matters in their daily lives."
