Ahead of Chuseok Holiday, Seoul Districts Launch Integrity Campaign

As the Chuseok holiday approaches, Seoul's autonomous districts are conducting integrity campaigns to promote a culture of honesty among public officials.

Gangseo-gu, Dongdaemun-gu, and Seodaemun-gu have launched morning integrity campaigns to foster a voluntary atmosphere of integrity practice among their employees.

Seoul City is expected to initiate undercover operations targeting public officials' corruption, centered around undercover inspection teams.

On the 31st, from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM, Gangseo-gu held a morning integrity campaign in front of various government buildings, including the main and annex buildings of the district office. About 30 participants, including officials from Gangseo-gu Office and the Gangseo branch of the National Public Officials Labor Union, took part, using sashes and placards bearing the Gangseo-gu integrity slogan, "Practice integrity and honesty not by force but by Gangseo," and promotional materials emphasizing the importance of practicing integrity in daily life under the banner "Clean Gangseo."

The promotional materials for integrity practice included six key tasks: ▲Eradication of unnecessary customs such as distributing rice cakes during promotions or transfers ▲Prohibition of misconduct such as accepting money or entertainment ▲Transparent and fair job performance ▲Establishment of a healthy dining culture, among others.

Additionally, the district attached integrity slogans to corporate cards used by each department to reinforce the commitment to integrity in everyday work.

Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) held an 'Anti-Corruption and Integrity Pledge Campaign' on the 28th in the first-floor lobby of the district office to foster a culture of integrity and strengthen efforts to improve power abuse in the public sector.

The campaign, aimed at creating an honest and horizontal organizational culture and providing public officials with an opportunity to pledge integrity practice, featured a visiting cultural stage busking performance by the 'Ocarina & Panflute Ensemble.'

The performance team played integrity songs, energizing the Monday morning commute. Along with the slogan "Integrity starts right now!", the mayor and about 30 district employees wore placards and sashes inscribed with their commitment to integrity and promoted the public officials' code of conduct and the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act to employees arriving at work. They also urged active participation in eliminating unfair orders, verbal abuse, and power abuse, and in fostering a horizontal and flexible organizational culture.

The district is implementing various integrity policies to improve organizational culture and strengthen integrity capabilities within the organization, including ▲Operation of the Anti-Corruption and Integrity Promotion Council ▲Autonomous internal control ▲Operation of the Dongdaemun-gu Ombudsman ▲Tailored integrity education for all employees ▲Publication of a comprehensive audit casebook ▲Issuance of integrity advisories ▲Operation of integrity supporters.

Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seong-heon) also held a 'Pledge Ceremony for Active Administration and Anti-Corruption Integrity Practice' for senior public officials on the morning of the 28th in the district office meeting room, committing to pursue honest and proactive policy implementation.

The event was aimed at senior officials to embody active administration and express efforts and pledges toward an integrity-driven district government. The mayor, deputy mayor, heads of the Administrative Autonomy Bureau, Planning and Finance Bureau, Smart Environment and Life Bureau, Welfare, Culture and Sports Bureau, Urban Maintenance Bureau, Safety and Construction Bureau, Council Secretariat, Public Health Center, and the director of the Urban Management Corporation signed and read aloud the pledge together.

The pledge includes commitments such as ▲Improving unreasonable regulations and practicing active administration ▲Overcoming passive administration and realizing active administration that residents can feel ▲Prohibition of pursuing any private interests ▲Guarding against corruption and fostering an honest public service culture.
