Since 2005, Mississippi has implemented a crocodile hunting license system on a first-come, first-served basis for residents aged 16 and older during a designated period each year. This measure was taken to legally allow crocodile hunting due to the increase in crocodile populations causing complaints such as pets being eaten.
This year’s crocodile hunting season is from August 25 to September 4, and the reason for allowing hunting during this period is because it is the crocodile breeding season.
The four hunters who participated in capturing the crocodile?Don Woods, Will Thomas, Joey Clark, and Tanner White?explained the situation at the time, saying, "It took seven hours just to catch the crocodile and lift it onto the boat."

They added, "The struggle with this guy, who broke the line 8 or 9 times and dived underwater, started in the evening and continued until dawn, but we eventually pulled it onto the boat."
When photos of the crocodile were released online, netizens reacted with comments such as "It really looks like a dinosaur" and "I was amazed by its overwhelming size."
The crocodile hunting license system also exists in South Carolina, Texas, Georgia, Alabama, and Arkansas besides Mississippi. The participation fee for crocodile hunting is $25, and by paying an additional $200, a permit is issued that allows ownership, sale, and processing of the captured crocodile.
