Vascular Health: Why You Should Start Managing It from Your 30s

Kangdong-gu Health Center (Director Lee Suhee) announced that, in collaboration with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and local governments nationwide, it will carry out the "Know Your Vascular Numbers, Red Circle Campaign" during the first week of September, designated as the Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease Prevention and Management Intensive Promotion Week.

The "Know Your Vascular Numbers, Red Circle Campaign" encourages individuals to accurately know and consistently manage their blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels to promote healthy blood circulation?the "Red Circle"?as a means to prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Particularly, the main target group, people in their 30s and 40s, have many health risk factors such as smoking, drinking, poor eating habits, and lack of exercise, yet more than one-third are unaware of whether they have any related conditions, highlighting the need for increased attention to prevention and management.

First, the campaign’s promotional booth, the "Red Circle Zone," will be set up from September 1 to 7, excluding weekends, at the Kangdong-gu Health Center’s Health Management Center and the Health 100-Year Counseling Centers within the local community centers. Additionally, on September 5, the booth will also operate at Gubeundari Station. Any Kangdong-gu resident can have their vascular health indicators (blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol) measured and receive one-on-one customized consultations on diseases, nutrition, and exercise based on the results, along with guidance on the nine lifestyle rules for preventing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

Furthermore, as part of the campaign, two special health lectures in cooperation with Hallym University Kangdong Sacred Heart Hospital will be held. ▲ On September 4, "Understanding Hypertension and Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases" (Professor Seo Wonwoo, Cardiology) ▲ On September 8, "Diabetes Self-Management and Complication Prevention" (Professor Lee Sangbae, Endocrinology) will be conducted at the Kangdong Children’s Hall from 2 PM to 3 PM. Pre-registration can be made by phone at the Kangdong-gu Health Center and will be closed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hwang Sangwon, Director of the Health and Medical Division, stated, "Eighty percent of deaths caused by cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases can be prevented through lifestyle improvements and management of pre-existing conditions such as hypertension and diabetes." He added, "Through this Red Circle Campaign, we will do our best to help residents regularly manage their blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels and practice proper lifestyle rules in their daily lives."
