Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok to Participate in 'Korea Local Governments Climate Adaptation Declaration' on the 30th to Build a Climate-Adapted Society

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) attended the "Korea Local Governments Climate Adaptation Declaration Ceremony" hosted by the Ministry of Environment at Songdo Convensia in Incheon on the 30th, pledging to take the lead in responding to the climate crisis.

The declaration ceremony was held as a linked event during the UN Climate Change Convention Adaptation Week (’23.8.28.~ 9.1.) and was attended by the Ministry of Environment, the Carbon Neutral Green Growth Committee, Dobong-gu, and other local governments nationwide to strengthen their commitment to climate adaptation efforts.

The main contents of the event included signing a declaration to respond to the climate crisis and create a society safe from climate disasters and damages, commemorative performances, and sharing of best practices by local governments.

Following the declaration, Dobong-gu plans to actively discover and implement adaptation policies to protect vulnerable groups from extreme climates such as heatwaves and cold spells, including heat-reflective paint projects for vulnerable households, electricity bill support, and development of adaptation programs for the elderly.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, stated, “We have clearly recognized the necessity and importance of adapting to the changing climate,” adding, “We will actively work and cooperate with the community at the center to build a climate-adaptive society.”

Meanwhile, since 2016, Dobong-gu has been systematically and sustainably implementing 31 detailed projects across five sectors by closely analyzing the region’s characteristics and vulnerable areas to adapt to the climate crisis. In the 2022 Ministry of Environment’s review of climate crisis adaptation measures, Dobong-gu received an evaluation of “excellent.”
