Unveiling the 2nd Generation of 'The Freestyle'
Samsung Electronics announced on the 31st that it will participate in 'IFA 2023,' Europe's largest home appliance exhibition held in Berlin, Germany, for five days starting from the 1st (local time). Samsung Electronics will showcase an integrated connected experience based on SmartThings and eco-friendly technologies for a sustainable future to the European market.
Samsung Electronics has prepared the industry's largest exhibition space of 6,026㎡ (approximately 1,823 pyeong) at City Cube Berlin in Messe Berlin under the theme of 'Meaningful Connection.' At the entrance, a new concept media facade using the giant Micro LED display 'The Wall' is installed to captivate visitors' attention. The exhibition space is designed as a place where visitors can experience various latest products centered on SmartThings and sustainability, including video displays, home appliances, and mobile devices.

Making Customers' Daily Lives Healthier and More Enjoyable with 'SmartThings'
At this year's IFA, Samsung Electronics collaborated with 15 partners to create SmartThings and Sustainability zones to better demonstrate the expanded SmartThings scenarios. The SmartThings zone is organized around themes important to European customers: ▲Home Control & Security ▲Health & Wellness ▲Entertainment.
In the Home Control & Security zone, visitors can experience integrated control of various appliances and devices such as lighting, air conditioning, and door locks on a single wall pad by linking ABB’s platform, a key smart home partner, with SmartThings. Using the 'SmartThings Home Monitor Service' and various sensors, users can prepare for small and large risks occurring inside the home, such as external intrusion or fire.
In the Health & Wellness zone, Samsung introduces 'Samsung Food,' an integrated dietary solution that provides personalized recipes based on the 'Food AI' platform and connects to e-commerce services. Additionally, by linking the YOGIFI app and mat with the TV, it offers a home training experience optimized for individuals.
In the Entertainment zone, various SmartThings features are showcased, including wireless speaker control via Galaxy S23 for convenient music listening across multiple devices and an optimized environment for gamers.

Introducing Eco-Friendly Technologies for a Sustainable Future
Samsung Electronics divides the product lifecycle into five stages: materials, production, transportation, usage, and recycling, and introduces eco-friendly activities to enhance sustainability at each stage, including eco-friendly packaging, solar cell remotes, recycled materials applied to the Galaxy Z Flip5, and microplastic reduction filters used in washing machines.
In particular, various solutions that effectively reduce energy consumption based on SmartThings are introduced. By using the newly introduced 'Carbon Intensity Insight' feature this year, users can check the 'carbon intensity' that varies by country and time according to the energy generation situation and choose to consume energy at times with the lowest carbon emissions.
The SmartThings Energy service expands partnerships with power companies and DR (Demand Response) service providers this year to offer the 'Auto DR' feature, which allows households to easily reduce energy consumption. When the power supplier predicts peak electricity usage times and notifies users in advance, the SmartThings app automatically switches to AI saving mode or controls lighting and smart plugs according to pre-set conditions, enabling simple energy savings. The AI saving mode predicts the household's monthly energy usage and automatically puts appliances into power-saving mode before exceeding the preset target usage. Notably, washing machines can reduce power consumption by up to an additional 60%.
Additionally, in collaboration with partners such as SMA, Samsung exhibits the 'Net Zero Home Solution,' which produces energy with solar panels, stores it in home batteries, and efficiently manages energy based on SmartThings Energy.
The Samsung Sustainability zone applies r-ABS material made by recycling waste styrofoam for wall construction. This material was developed by the 'Circular Economy Research Institute,' newly established to develop recycled materials and build a resource circulation ecosystem after Samsung Electronics announced its 'New Environmental Management Strategy' last year.
Moreover, an experience zone is set up where visitors can better understand sustainability in an engaging way. When coins symbolizing materials such as waste fishing nets and waste styrofoam are inserted, recycled plastic pieces come out of the outlet, and the recycling process is shown in detail on the screen.

From EcoBubble to Microplastic Reduction... Bespoke Home Appliances
Various Bespoke home appliances are also introduced. The newly unveiled washing machine at this IFA maximizes efficiency by combining proprietary 'EcoBubble' technology with AI functions. EcoBubble generates rich detergent bubbles that penetrate fabric to remove stains, enabling fast and clean washing even in cold water, consuming 40% less energy compared to the EU energy label's highest grade A standard. Additionally, AI measures the weight and dirtiness of laundry to use only the necessary amount of water and detergent.
Samsung Electronics also showcases a product that combines a 25kg capacity washing machine and a 13kg capacity dryer into one unit, enhancing washing experience and space utilization. This product features a '7-inch wide touch LCD' that allows intuitive use by displaying courses at a glance and boasts excellent washing and drying performance and energy efficiency by applying EcoBubble and digital inverter heat pump technologies.
A 'Microplastic Reduction Filter' mounted outside the washing machine is also introduced. This filter reduces microplastic emissions generated during washing by approximately 98% and is characterized by the use of recycled plastic materials.
Many home appliances equipped with advanced AI technologies are exhibited, including the 'Bespoke AI Oven,' which recognizes ingredients with an internal camera and suggests recipes, and the 'Bespoke Jet AI,' the world's first AI-certified wireless stick vacuum cleaner by UL.
Tailored for the Big Screen Era... Ultra-Large Premium Screen Experience
Samsung Electronics continues to strengthen its leadership in Micro LED, Neo QLED 8K·4K, and OLED technologies and is expanding its ultra-large screen lineup to open the premium home screen era.
At this year's IFA, Samsung Electronics presents five Micro LED lineups ranging from 76 inches to 140 inches, broadening customer choices and targeting the ultra-premium market. In the high-definition, ultra-large lineup, three 98-inch models?Neo QLED 8K, Neo QLED 4K, and QLED 4K?are showcased in the Big Screen zone.
The second-generation model of 'The Freestyle,' unveiled for the first time at this exhibition, features smart edge blending technology that allows two units to create a large 21:9 ratio screen, providing a cinema-like screen experience. Samsung also introduces its proprietary gaming platform service 'Gaming Hub' and gaming monitor products for European customers who enjoy gaming. Gaming Hub is a platform that allows streaming game services without separate consoles or PCs on Samsung screen devices such as TVs, gaming monitors, and the second-generation The Freestyle, continuously expanding new partnerships and currently offering about 3,000 games.
