Language data and professional translation service company Flitto announced on the 30th that it has signed a contract to supply its AI-based menu translation service to Shinsegae Department Store.
Flitto will provide digital menu translation for a total of 54 dining brands located in Shinsegae Department Store. From Korean brands such as Hanwoori and Pyeongyang Myeonok to cafe brands like Starbucks, menus of various culturally diverse dining brands within the Shinsegae Department Store main branch will be translated into eight languages including English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese, and Malay.
Flitto’s menu translation service is digital and accessed via QR code, allowing users to easily check translated menus, related photos, and menu descriptions on their smartphones. The entire process for accurate menu translation?including OCR (Optical Character Recognition) text reading, AI translation, automatic application of terminology (TM), and final review by platform translators?is performed on Flitto’s proprietary platform. By combining generative AI to provide detailed descriptions for each menu item, this is the first and only method of its kind in Korea, receiving high evaluations for ▲high-quality translation results ▲operational efficiency ▲user convenience ▲cost-effectiveness.
Flitto CEO Lee Jeong-su said, "With the resumption of group tours by Chinese tourists, expectations for sales growth from Yukeo (Chinese tourists) are increasing," adding, "Recently, inquiries for service adoption from various businesses including major distribution companies and local governments have surged explosively." He continued, "We have proven service competitiveness by implementing it from popular attractions to traditional markets, Michelin-starred restaurants, and premium department stores," and added, "We will do our best to advance our platform technology and services so that we can establish ourselves as the world’s best ‘digital space translation’ service beyond Korea."
