Various Events Around Insadong Until the 18th of Next Month
The 36th annual 'Insadong Cultural Festival' will open on the 31st at the Annyeong Insadong Central Museum in Jongno-gu, Seoul, as the '2023 Insadong Antique & Art Fair' event.
Hosted by Jongno-gu, Seoul, and organized by the Insadong Traditional Culture Preservation Association, this event will continue until the 18th of next month at the Annyeong Insadong Central Museum and throughout the Insadong area.
The Insadong Cultural Festival has been held under the name 'Insadong Antique & Art Fair' since 2020. This year's event is divided into three parts: Part 1 Tea & Craft Expo (August 31 - September 4), Part 2 Antique Fair (September 7 - 11), and Part 3 Insadong Young Artists & Animation, Webtoon, New Media Art Fair (September 14 - 18).
During the Part 1 festival, where traditional tea and crafts can be enjoyed, a special exhibition by Yeonpa Shin Hyun-cheol, a master of royal ceramics from Gwangju, will be held. During the Part 2 festival, which features antique art, a special exhibition of ceramic masterpieces will be presented. In Part 3, special exhibitions by celebrities such as Kim Chang-wan from Sanullim, Hwang Chan-sung from 2PM, actors Lim Won-hee and Lee Tae-sung, and Kang Rina from Haetbitchon will take place.
Additionally, there will be a modern hanbok parade and fashion show expressing Korean beauty with a contemporary sensibility by designer Kwon Hye-jin of Studio Hyeon, a couple hanbok festival, and an Insadong photo contest.
During the festival, over 60 galleries from Korea and abroad will participate, exhibiting about 4,000 works by approximately 400 artists.
Experience events where traditional shop merchants and visitors can meet directly, demonstrations of framing such as mounting and making frames, traditional tea and food experiences, taking certified photos in Insadong, and tour programs exploring long-established shops and historical sites in Insadong will also be prepared. The organizers plan to film the festival site and release it on an online platform.
Shin So-yoon, president of the Insadong Traditional Culture Preservation Association, stated, "We have prepared this to contribute to the revitalization of Seoul's culture and to allow many citizens to gain vitality through the charm of various antiques and traditional culture."
