Yongsan-gu Opens 4 Locations Including Gangbyeon Samsung Suite Senior Center

Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Park Hee-young) will open four new senior centers from this month through next month. The facilities have been renovated to enhance leisure and welfare for the elderly.

The targeted senior centers are ▲ Gangbyeon Samsung Suite Senior Center (newly established) ▲ Saerona Senior Center (relocated) ▲ Namsan Daerim Senior Center (reopened) ▲ Dongbinggo Prugio Senior Center (reopened).

Gangbyeon Samsung Suite Senior Center (40 Wonhyo-ro) held its opening ceremony on the 25th and began full operation. About 80 people, including Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, Oh Cheon-jin, Chairperson of Yongsan-gu Council, Kim Yong-ho, Seoul City Council member, Ham Dae-geon, district council member, senior center presidents, and local residents attended the ceremony.

Gangbyeon Samsung Suite Senior Center is equipped with one grandfather room, one grandmother room, massage chairs, sofas, refrigerators, air conditioners, and other facilities.

In his congratulatory speech, Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “We will treat the local elderly like our parents,” and added, “We will spare no effort to support the seniors in harmonizing and communicating at the senior centers so that they can enjoy a healthy and wholesome leisure life.”

Saerona Senior Center (23-6 Bogwang-ro 12ga-gil) is relocating due to building safety issues. A safety inspection conducted in March and April rated it D, indicating that the facility was inadequate for use.

A district official stated, “The external fence is damaged and wooden structures are corroded, but there are difficulties in improvement through the owner,” and added, “We are preparing to relocate the senior center by finding idle spaces.”

The new location will be the basement of Bogwang 3rd Senior Center (1 Bogwang-ro 32-gil). After completing renovations such as insulation, window replacement, and restroom improvements to make it comfortable, it is scheduled to reopen around mid-September.

The senior centers to be reopened are Namsan Daerim Senior Center (254 Noksapyeong-daero) and Dongbinggo Prugio Senior Center (66 Noksapyeong-daero).

Namsan Daerim Senior Center held a reopening ceremony on the 24th after operations were suspended in 2015. On that day, former Minister of Unification Kwon Young-se attended and engaged in discussions with local residents. Dongbinggo Prugio Senior Center (66 Noksapyeong-daero) will also reopen from the 1st of next month.

As of September, the district operates a total of 91 senior centers with about 3,400 users. The district supports necessary supplies and grains for the operation of the senior centers.
