The Cultural Heritage Administration's Palace and Royal Tombs Division announced on the 30th that from next month 1st to November 30th, for three months, the operation method will be changed to allow visitors to freely tour the Huwon (Rear Garden) of Changdeokgung Palace. Previously, to preserve cultural heritage and the ecological environment and to help visitors understand, the number of visitors to the Huwon was limited and tours were conducted following a guide at designated times. The Changdeokgung Management Office has changed the operation method to expand visitors' opportunities to enjoy cultural heritage and to establish a high-quality viewing system. In particular, in October and November, the number of visitors per session will be increased from 100 to 150 (100 for on-site reservations and 50 for online reservations).
Visitors can enter at the designated time and freely tour the Huwon area. The cultural heritage interpretation service can be optionally requested according to the entry time. However, some sections, such as Okryucheon Stream, which is undergoing restoration work, will have restricted access. The admission fee is 8,000 KRW per person, including the Changdeokgung entrance fee. The Changdeokgung Management Office stated, "We hope visitors enjoy the beauty of the seasons and create special memories in the place where Joseon kings appreciated nature, composed poetry, and cultivated their mind and body."
The Huwon of Changdeokgung is a space with outstanding Joseon-era landscaping. Visitors can encounter unique buildings and exquisite scenery, including Buyongji Pond, Bulpomun Gate resembling the character of a nobleman, and Yeongyeongdang Reception Hall modeled after a yangban (aristocrat) residence.
