Director Ryu Seung-wan's film "Mil-su" became the first Korean movie released in the summer to surpass 5 million viewers.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system as of 7 a.m. on the 30th, "Mil-su" recorded a cumulative audience of 5,001,001.
Released on July 26, "Mil-su" reached 1 million viewers by the 4th day, 2 million by the 7th day, 3 million by the 11th day, 4 million by the 17th day, and 5 million by the 36th day.
"Mil-su" is the only one among the four Korean films released in the summer market to surpass 5 million viewers through word of mouth. It is the second Korean film released this year to achieve this, following "The Outlaws 3" (director Lee Sang-yong).
Through distributor NEW, director Ryu Seung-wan expressed his gratitude, saying, "I sincerely thank the 5 million viewers."
"Mil-su" is a maritime crime action film about people who make a living by salvaging daily necessities thrown into the sea, who get caught up in a life-changing big deal. The cast includes actors Kim Hye-soo, Yum Jung-ah, Jo In-sung, Park Jung-min, and Go Min-si.
