The Subcommittee on Agenda Coordination under the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee on the 29th tabled the 'Itaewon Disaster Special Act' and began its review.
On that day, Song Jae-ho, the chair of the Subcommittee on Agenda Coordination from the Democratic Party of Korea, stated in his opening remarks, "We will proceed with the review after listening to the opinions of expert committee members and the government's views," and introduced the special bill.
He said, "Various opinions have been submitted from the National Human Rights Commission, the Korean Bar Association, and Minbyun (Lawyers for a Democratic Society) regarding the special act," adding, "We will sincerely deliberate by reflecting the bereaved families' opinions as much as possible."
Attending the meeting were Democratic Party lawmakers Song Jae-ho, Lee Hae-sik, Oh Young-hwan, and Yong Hye-in from the Basic Income Party. The People Power Party, which has opposed both the enactment of the Itaewon Disaster Special Act and the formation of the Subcommittee on Agenda Coordination, did not attend.
The Democratic Party plans to handle the special act at the second Subcommittee on Agenda Coordination meeting on the 30th of this month.
