Kim Ki-hyun "Eating Fish at Yeonan Wharf is a Natural Thing"
Yoon Jae-ok "Decided to Disband After Lunch at Sushi Restaurants by Standing Committees Following the Banquet"
The People Power Party held a luncheon featuring seafood with key party officials after completing a workshop ahead of the regular National Assembly session. The party officials criticized the Democratic Party of Korea's response to the contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan, even pressuring by saying, "Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, should come and eat some (seafood) too."
On the 29th, Kim Gi-hyeon, the leader of the People Power Party, and other party officials held a luncheon at a sashimi restaurant at Yeonan Pier in Incheon. Kim said, "It is very questionable why the food we usually eat keeps becoming a controversy and why what we eat becomes a matter of social interest," adding, "We eat raw fish and seafood regularly, so it is fundamentally wrong for this to become an issue." He continued, "There are forces that keep dragging our society from normalcy to abnormality by ruining our ordinary daily lives and covering our food issues with baseless rumors," and said, "When the U.S. beef imports were introduced, people went crazy saying they would get mad cow disease, but to this day, I have never heard of a single person who actually got mad cow disease."
He said, "Why do our people have their freedom to choose which country's beef to eat according to their preferences obstructed, and why do they arbitrarily control the national diet for their political purposes?" He emphasized, "The Democratic Party should reflect on this now. Stop messing with the tables we usually enjoy."
Kim added, "It is natural to come to Yeonan Pier in Incheon and eat fish, but trying to create a society where this natural thing is seen as strange is a wrong example," and said, "No matter how much they cover it up with rumors, the people know well what is truth and science, and what they should or should not do."

Yoon Jae-ok, the floor leader of the People Power Party, introduced at the event, "After the workshop, the lawmakers planned to go to sashimi restaurants by standing committees for lunch and then disperse."
Yoo Jeong-bok, the mayor of Incheon, said, "The problem is the agitation that causes people to feel unsafe, but our seafood is safe," adding, "We must prevent the public from feeling anxious due to excessive baseless claims. We need to show it directly on-site."
Park Dae-chul, the chairman of the People Power Party Policy Committee, said during the meal, "Tell Lee Jae-myung to come and eat some too," and added, "It’s okay to eat it now or even 4 to 5 years later." The mention of eating it 4 to 5 years later refers to domestic researchers' simulation of the contaminated water's marine spread, which suggests that the contaminated water will circulate around the Pacific Ocean and only be discharged 4 to 5 years later. This implies that even if the contaminated water reaches domestic waters, there is no problem with the seafood.
