A Man Who Broke Into the Neighbor's House at Dawn and Assaulted When Caught
Robbery and Injury Charges, Arrest Warrant Denied... Victim in Fear
A man living next door was arrested by the police after breaking into the home of a woman living alone at dawn to steal underwear and assaulting her.
According to a KBS report on the 28th, the Gangseo Police Station in Seoul arrested and is investigating a man in his 30s, Mr. A, on charges of robbery and injury on the 1st of this month. Mr. A is accused of secretly entering the home of a woman in her 20s, Ms. B, in Hwagok-dong, Gangseo-gu, at around 1:40 a.m. on the 21st of last month and assaulting her.
Mr. A is a man living next door to Ms. B, and they had moved in around the same time and exchanged greetings. Mr. A planned the crime deliberately, taking advantage of the time when Ms. B was away from home. He prepared meticulously, wearing gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints, before entering Ms. B’s house.
Ms. B, who returned home late at night, was startled when she entered her bedroom. Mr. A was standing between the bedroom door and the wall. Mr. A pushed Ms. B, who screamed upon seeing him, and then fled. During this incident, Ms. B sustained injuries to her arm and face, requiring three weeks of medical treatment.
During the police investigation, Mr. A admitted to the crime, saying, "I entered to steal underwear." The police applied for an arrest warrant on charges of robbery and injury, but the court dismissed it, stating that "he has a job and regularly contacts his family, so there is no risk of fleeing or destroying evidence."
Ms. B, who lives right next door to Mr. A, has been receiving psychiatric treatment and had to stay at a colleague’s house for about a month after the incident. She told KBS, "Even looking through this door gap is difficult. I can hear every little sound or movement. When I’m alone at home, my hands tremble."
It was confirmed that Mr. A moved his residence around the 28th, but Ms. B still cannot bring herself to return home. She expressed her anxiety, saying, "He knows everything about my house. Unless I move, I have to live in this house."
The police reportedly call Ms. B frequently to check whether Mr. A is approaching. They also issued a smartwatch to Mr. A and registered him as a safety management target in the 112 system.
On the 24th, a man living next door was also arrested by the police for breaking into a neighbor’s house at dawn with a weapon and attempting to sexually assault a woman.
The Dongbu Police Station in Daegu arrested and is investigating a man in his 30s, Mr. C, on charges of attempted special rape. Mr. C is accused of entering a detached house in Songjeong-dong, Dong-gu, at around 3 a.m. that day, armed with a weapon, and attempting to sexually assault a sleeping woman in her 50s, Ms. D.
Police investigations revealed that Mr. C and Ms. D were acquaintances within the family. The police applied charges of attempted special rape to Mr. C based on evidence such as signs of a struggle, but Mr. C reportedly denied the crime.
