Prosecutors Arrest and Indict Chinese National Who Posted Threatening Message About Hyehwa Station Stabbing on Danggeun Market

A Chinese national who posted a threat on the online local community platform Danggeun Market stating that he would carry out a knife rampage at Hyehwa Station has been brought to trial.


On the 28th, the Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Soo-min) announced that on the 25th, they had arrested and indicted Wang Mo (31), a Chinese national who posted a message on Danggeun Market threatening to wield a knife at Hyehwa Station on Seoul Subway Line 4, on charges of intimidation and violation of the Immigration Control Act.


Prosecutors Arrest and Indict Chinese National Who Posted Threatening Message About Hyehwa Station Stabbing on Danggeun Market Wang Mo (31), a Chinese national who posted a threat on the online local community platform Danggeun Market stating that he would carry out a stabbing rampage at Hyehwa Station, appeared at the Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-dong, Seoul, on the 7th for a warrant hearing.

Wang is accused of posting a message on Danggeun Market at 2:43 a.m. on the 4th stating, "I will cause a knife rampage at Hyehwa Station, so anyone who sees this message should avoid the area."


Although Wang deleted the post within 8 seconds, a screenshot of the post spread online, and the police tracked the internet protocol (IP) address to arrest Wang the following day.


It was investigated that Wang entered the country as an international student but remained in South Korea for two years after his visa expired and his residency status was terminated.


A representative from the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office stated, "We will make every effort to maintain the prosecution so that the defendant receives punishment commensurate with the crime, and in the event of similar crimes threatening citizens' daily lives, we plan to cooperate closely with the police to respond strictly."
