Lee "The Party's Future and the Nation's Fate Depend on This Regular National Assembly"
"All Party Efforts Focused on People-Centered Legislation and Responsible Fiscal Role"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 28th regarding the September regular session of the National Assembly, "The responsibility of the Democratic Party is immense," adding, "As the majority party in the National Assembly, the Democratic Party must take the lead in correcting the government's reckless actions and definitely kindle the flame for the recovery of people’s livelihoods."
In his greeting at the party workshop held at Oak Valley in Wonju, Gangwon Province, Lee said, "People’s livelihoods have truly fallen into despair."
He stated, "I hope you will approach the regular session of the National Assembly with the determination to take full responsibility for the lives of our people who are pushed to the brink," emphasizing, "This is the only way for the Democratic Party to become the party the people want and for the National Assembly to truly represent public sentiment." He also said, "I hope we can clearly show the Democratic Party’s vision in the two core pillars of the regular session?the legislation and the budget," adding, "We must concentrate all our efforts on legislation centered on people’s livelihoods and responsible roles in finance, and focus on investigating the public’s suspicions."
Lee said, "The people gave the Democratic Party an overwhelming majority in the last general election. However, looking back on whether we have faithfully met the people’s expectations, there are many regrets," and added, "Regardless of the reasons, I feel a great responsibility. I hope we can once again tighten our shoelaces with the determination that the future of the party and the fate of the country depend on this regular session."
Park Kwang-on, floor leader, said, "South Korea is going through an era of unprecedented regression and backsliding," adding, "The Democratic Party must be the foundation of hope for the people." He said, "The Democratic Party has the innovative capacity to pursue reform and change. It also has the capability for inclusion and efforts to resolve inequality and polarization," and added, "Based on this proud legacy, it is time to overcome irrationality and abnormality by any means and show the people our visionary capabilities."
Jung Chun-sook, deputy floor leader for policy, announced the seven major legislative tasks for 'Filling People’s Livelihoods' to be prioritized in the regular session. She explained, "The Yoon Seok-yeol government and the People Power Party are neglecting public sentiment and focusing only on political strife, turning our society into one where everyone fends for themselves," adding, "With this awareness, on the 1st, the floor leader group and the Policy Committee launched the Livelihood Filling Team, which directly communicates with the public on the ground and identified livelihood policies that resonate with the people." The seven legislative tasks introduced that day include ▲the Heatwave Worker Protection Act ▲the Innovation Growth Support Act ▲the Teacher’s Rights Protection Act to prevent indiscriminate reports of child abuse ▲a livelihood economic recovery package law including expanded credit loans for low-credit borrowers ▲the Small and Medium Enterprise Investment Activation Act ▲and the Improvement Act for Small Construction Sites, among others.
