Gwangju Buk-gu Hosts Event Commemorating Gender Equality Week

This event, held to commemorate Gender Equality Week, is conducted under the theme "Gender-Equal Buk-gu: Working Together and Caring Together," in line with Buk-gu's administrative goal of creating an inclusive and friendly city where women are protected.

About 100 people, including female leaders and members of the Women-Friendly Village Resident Participation Group, will attend the ceremony, which will begin with a pre-ceremony performance by an all-female performance team, followed by awards for those who have contributed to improving women's status, a reading of a declaration for pledging gender equality practice, and a performance.

After the ceremony, an expert lecture will be held to reflect on the meaning of Gender Equality Week and to promote a culture of gender equality, focusing on gender-equal language in daily life and gender-equal culture within families.

In addition, various side events that residents can participate in will be held on the day of the event at the Buk-gu Happiness Harmony Center and Buk-gu Office area, including a special exhibition titled "The Appearance of Families is as Diverse as the Number of Families," which reexamines diverse family forms, a campaign called "Changing Sexist Language," which encourages reflection on discriminatory language in daily life, and a promotional booth operated by the Women-Friendly Village Resident Participation Group.

A Buk-gu official said, "Gender Equality Week is a week to commemorate the Day of Women's Rights Declaration, when the declaration of women's human rights in our country originated," adding, "Through this year's Gender Equality Week, we hope that all members of the local community will communicate and build consensus on gender equality, taking a step closer to realizing an inclusive Buk-gu where women are respected."
