Korea National Oil Corporation Donates 'KNOC Dream Sunlight Energy No.1'

East Sea Storage Base, Net Zero Profit Solar Power Generation Facility

Expanding Solar Power in Local Communities to Promote Carbon Neutrality Policy Participation

Korea National Oil Corporation (President Kim Dong-seop) donated the solar power generation facility ‘KNOC Dream Sunlight Energy No. 1’ to Mukho Daycare Center located in Donghae City, Gangwon Province, and held a completion ceremony on the 28th.

Korea National Oil Corporation Donates 'KNOC Dream Sunlight Energy No.1' The KNOC Dream Solar Energy No.1 donated by Korea National Oil Corporation installed.

This donation was made with the purpose of sharing the profits obtained from the solar power generation facility installed at the Donghae storage base of the Oil Corporation with the local community, and creating conditions for the spread of participation in carbon neutrality policies within the community.

The Oil Corporation is leading the transition to low-carbon energy in line with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions in response to climate change. In this context, it successfully completed the ‘Net Zero Establishment Project’ aimed at making the net carbon emissions zero at the Donghae storage base from 2022 to April of this year.

The success of the Oil Corporation’s ‘Net Zero Establishment Project’ is significant not only because it achieved zero carbon emissions at a hydrocarbon-based oil storage base, but also because it generates profits by selling surplus electricity produced through the solar power generation facility.

As a way to return the profits from solar power sales to the local community, the Oil Corporation, in cooperation with Donghae City Hall, launched the ‘KNOC Dream Sunlight Energy’ project to donate solar power generation facilities to community welfare facilities such as daycare centers and welfare centers.

An official from the Oil Corporation stated, “This project is meaningful in that it aims for long-term support effects through facility installation and donation rather than one-time cash support,” and added, “The Oil Corporation will expand the foundation for returning profits generated from Net Zero (carbon neutrality) to the local community and strive to lead energy savings and carbon neutrality.”

Starting with the donation of ‘KNOC Dream Sunlight Energy No. 1,’ the Oil Corporation plans to continue supporting solar power generation facilities to encourage local community participation in carbon neutrality policies.
